| CIGARETTE BANDIT STRIKES TWICE | ||

Windsor Police are investigating after a suspect stole cigarettes from two separate convenience stores within minutes last night in the city's west end. At 8:30 p.m. yesterday, a man walked into a convenience store in the 3500 block of Peter St. and asked the clerk for two packages of cigarettes. The clerk retrieved the cigarettes and placed them on the counter while the man went to the beverage cooler. The man returned to the counter empty handed, grabbed the cigarettes off the counter and ran toward the door without paying for them. The clerk ran around the counter and attempted to grab the suspect at the door but the suspect pushed the clerk causing him to fall to the floor causing some minor scrapes to his hands. The suspect fled the area on foot westbound on Peter St. the clerk gave chase for a very short distance but was unable to catch the suspect and returned to the store. Approximately ten minutes later, a man matching the same description as the suspect in the first incident walked into the convenience store in the 1000 block of Felix and approached the counter. The man requested two packages of the same brand of cigarettes taken earlier. The clerk retrieved the cigarettes and placed them on the counter. The suspect immediately grabbed the cigarettes and fled the store on foot northbound on Felix Ave. The suspect was captured on a surveillance video during the second incident. The suspect in both incidents is described as a white male, 25 years old, 5'9" with a heavy build (overweight). He had short dark hair, a dark goatee and was wearing a black hooded jacket with a white plaid lining inside the hood, black pants and white running shoes. - 30 -
