K9 UNIT TRACKS ROBBERY SUSPECTS

Windsor Police have two young persons in custody on robbery charges after a Police Service Dog tracked them down on Saturday night.  At 5:30 p.m. on Saturday December 19, 2009, uniformed officers responded to a convenience store in the 2600 block of Jefferson Blvd. for an assault complaint.  Upon arrival, officers were met by a 17 year old youth who advised that he had been waiting at the bus stop located outside the store listening to his IPOD. At this time, he was approached by two males who demanded that he give them his IPOD. The complainant refused at which time both males began to punch the complainant about the head.  One of the suspects threatened the victim that if he didn't turn over the IPOD, he was going to get stabbed.  The suspects continued to punch the victim causing him to fall to the ground.  As the victim fell, his cell phone fell out of his jacket pocket.  The suspects grabbed the phone and ran south bound on Jefferson from the scene. The victim entered the store and called police.

A K9 Unit including Police Service Dog "CYR" attended the scene shortly thereafter and commenced a track of the suspects.  The PSD led officers to a residence in the 2600 block of Jefferson Blvd.  After officers explained the situation to the occupant of this residence, she  allowed officers to search the dwelling for the suspects.  The resident advised officers that her three daughters lived in the house with her and two of their friends had just shown up.  Officers spoke to the daughters who advised that the suspects were not in the house.  Officers searched the house and found the two suspects hiding in a crawl space located in the basement of the house. The officers also located the victim's cell phone in the crawl space.  Both suspects were arrested without incident.

Two 17 year old young persons, both Windsor residents are charged with robbery and have been remanded into custody.  The victim sustained some bruising and scratches to his face but did not require hospital treatment.
