SUSPECTED GROW OPERATION CAUSES FIRE

On December 14, 2009, Windsor Fire and Police Services responded to a working fire at 2556 Princess Rd. This fire has been reported on earlier this week in the media. As a result of this fire, the occupants of the residence were issued an offence notice for disabling the smoke detector inside the home. Windsor Fire Service determined that the fire originated in the attic of the house and was most likely caused by faulty electrical equipment located in the attic. Further inspection of the attic inside the residence revealed evidence of a marijuana grow operation. Firefighters and Police Officers at the scene observed a quantity of marijuana plants which had been destroyed by the fire. Officers also observed lighting equipment and space heaters associated to the grow operation in the attic which was also damaged by the fire.

Criminal charges relating to the grow operation are not being pursued at this time due to the destruction of the evidence during the fire. It should be noted that the disconnection of smoke detectors is common practice among marijuana grow operations as the heat and humidity produced by the equipment will cause them to activate.
