| POLICE TO ENFORCE LIQUOR LICENCE ACT AT SPITS GAMES | ||
|
The Windsor Police Service will be enforcing the Liquor Licence Act in the parking lot of the W.F.C.U. Centre at all future Windsor Spitfire home games. After receiving numerous complaints of alcohol consumption taking place in the parking lot of the venue, uniformed officers from the WPS attended the W.F.C.U. Centre prior to the Windsor Spitfires home game on October 7, 2009. At this time, officers observed numerous "tailgate parties" occurring within the parking lot and people consuming alcoholic beverages. The officers issued warnings to approximately thirty individuals who were consuming alcohol. The W.F.C.U. Centre building is a licenced premise under the Liquor Licence Act however, the parking lot surrounding the building is NOT licenced. As a result, anyone consuming alcohol in the parking lot is in contravention of Section 31(2) of the Liquor Licence Act and is subject to a fine of $130. The Windsor Police Service has received numerous complaints from patrons attending the W.F.C.U. Centre on game nights advising that they are unable to find parking as a result of some of these tailgate parties taking up more than one parking space. The Windsor Police Service encourages Windsor Spitfire fans to enjoy the games but will be taking a zero tolerance position regarding the consumption of alcohol in the parking lot area. - 30 -
