| DRIVER OF STOLEN VEHICLE ARRESTED AFTER FOOT PURSUIT | ||
Windsor Police have the driver of a stolen vehicle in custody after a foot pursuit through a residential neighbourhood in the city's east side early this morning. At 12:30 a.m. today, uniformed officers were responding to the parking lot of a convenience store in the 1300 block of Walker Rd. for a report of a recovered stolen vehicle. The clerk at the store had observed a white 1992 Chrysler LeBaron in the parking lot and noticed that the ignition had been popped out. He reported this to police and it was confirmed that the vehicle had been stolen three days earlier from an address in the east end of the city. Prior to police arriving at the store, the vehicle was seen leaving the parking lot south on Walker Rd. Patrol officers spotted the vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed southbound on Westcott St. from Seminole Rd. and attempted to follow but there was a Dodge minivan between them and the suspect vehicle also travelling south on Westcott St. The officers observed the stolen vehicle turn east onto Guy St. The officers turned east onto Milloy St in an effort to head off the vehicle and then proceeded up to Guy St. where they observed the stolen Lebaron parked in a driveway of a residence in the 1900 block of Aubin Rd. They also observed the minivan pull into the same driveway next to the stolen car. The driver of the stolen vehicle then jumped into the passenger seat of the minivan and told the driver of the van to "drive". The driver of the van didn't recognize the suspect and was unaware of the circumstances. By this time, the officers had pulled their cruiser in behind both vehicles. Upon seeing this, the suspect seated in the passenger side of the minivan got out of the vehicle and ran north in the alley between Westcott St. and Aubin Rd. One of the officers gave chase on foot while repeatedly commanding the suspect to stop. The suspect ran through several back yards and scaled an eight foot fence in an attempt to escape from the officer. The officer was eventually able to catch the suspect in the front yard of a residence in the 1800 block of George Ave. where he was arrested. The suspect was wearing a pair of black gloves at the time of his arrest.
