VICTIM ROBBED OF PURSE

Windsor Police are investigating after a woman was robbed of her purse while walking in the city's near west side yesterday evening.  At 9:30 p.m. on Thursday December 2, 2010, uniformed patrol officers responded to the area of University Ave.W. at Bruce Ave. for a report of a purse snatching.  Upon arrival, officers were met by a 45 year old woman who advised them that she had been walking east on University Ave on the south sidewalk when she was knocked to the ground by a man from behind. The suspect then grabbed the victim's purse off her shoulder and then ran south in the alley just east of Bruce Ave.

The victim was emotionally shaken and received abrasions to her knees from being knocked to the ground but was otherwise not physically injured.  The purse contained the victim's identification but no cash.  The victim was not able to see the suspect's face but described him as a black male, approximately 20-25 years of age, wearing a winter coat and toque.

Anyone with any information with respect to this incident is asked to call Windsor Police Investigations at 519-255-6700 ext 4830 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 519-258-TIPS (8477).

The Windsor Police Service is reminding the public to be aware of their surroundings, walk  in well lit areas - in groups if possible and not to carry large amounts of cash in purses or on their person.  As the holiday season approaches,  Police are also reminding the public to not leave items of value in plain view in their vehicles while shopping and are
encouraging them to report any suspicious activity in their neighbourhoods.
