HIGH SCHOOL ALTERCATION LEADS TO WEAPONS CHARGES

Windsor Police have charged two teenagers after an altercation at a west end high school yesterday morning.  Early on Thursday morning, the principal at Century High School located on California Ave at Tecumseh Rd. received information that a fight was going to occur at sometime during the day between two males who have been having an ongoing dispute with each other.  The principal passed on this information to the Windsor Police High School Resource Officer assigned to Century High School who in turn attended the school during the lunch period.

At 11:50 a.m., students walking in the hall at the school observed a 16 year old male and a 14 year old male remove their jackets, exchange words and square off as if in preparation for a fight.  As they were squaring off, the 14 year old boy reached into his front pants pocket and pulled out a butcher knife with a 10 inch blade and began waving it around threatening the 16 year old.  In the process of waving the knife around, the blade narrowly missed striking the faces of several students walking by in the crowded hallway.  An observant teacher in the area saw the fracas and immediately moved toward the 14 year old who put the knife back in his pocket.  The teacher grabbed the 14 year old and the principal grabbed the 16 year old as the two were still attempting to get at each other to fight.  Both males were separated and the WPS High School Resource Officer was summoned. Even after being separated, both males continued to utter threats to each other.  Additional uniformed officers attended the school and both males were arrested at the scene and taken into custody. neither of the involved parties received any injuries as a result of the altercation.

The 14 year old male is currently bound by a Youth Criminal Justice Act court imposed probation condition not to possess any offensive weapons.  As a result, the 14 year old youth is facing charges of Assault With A Weapon, Possession of a Weapon Dangerous To The Public Peace and Failure To comply with a YCJA Sentence.

The 16 year old youth is charged with assault.
