POLICE LAY CHARGES IN EXPRESSWAY ACCIDENT

Windsor Police have laid several charges against a driver involved in a collision on the E.C. Row Expressway near Banwell Rd. which left a 38 year old woman in critical condition. At 7:00 a.m. on Friday, February 5, 2010, Police, Fire and Ambulance responded to this location to find two severely damaged vehicles in the eastbound lanes of the E.C. Row Expressway just west of Banwell Rd. Firefighters extricated the 38 year old female driver of an eastbound black Ford Escort and transported her to hospital where she currently remains in critical condition.  Witness reports indicated that a 2000 white Ford Escort was travelling westbound on the expressway in an erratic manner and at a high rate of speed. As the white escort reached a curve in the road, the driver lost control of the vehicle and it crossed the median striking the eastbound vehicle. The driver of the white vehicle was also transported to hospital.

Uniformed Police Officers attended Hotel Dieu hospital to check on the condition of both drivers and to continue the investigation. As one of the officers was speaking with the male driver of the white Escort that crossed the median, he observed a plastic bag of suspected crack cocaine at the feet of the driver as he laid on the hospital gurney. The officer seized the suspected crack cocaine.

Daniel SHELLEY - 46 years of Tecumseh is charged with one count each of Dangerous Driving Causing Bodily Harm, Possession of a Schedule I Substance (Crack Cocaine) and Failing to Wear A Complete Seat Belt Assembly.  SHELLEY will appear in Court #1 on April 1, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. to answer to the charges.
