Windsor Police have one man in custody after the execution of a search warrant in a downtown apartment building last night. At 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday night, officers assigned to the Drugs and Guns Unit executed a search warrant on an 18th floor apartment of a building located on the southwest corner of Chatham at Goyeau Sts. Upon entry into the apartment, officers did not find the resident home but a search of the apartment revealed large quantities of Crack Cocaine, Ecstasy tablets, and a small quantity of marihuana. Officers also located a revolver loaded with hollow point ammunition laying on the cushion of a couch in the living room. Officers also seized a large quantity of cash. While officers were inside searching the apartment, they received information that the suspect had returned to the building and was on his way up to the apartment. As the suspect reached the apartment, officers inside opened the door and the suspect fled down the hallway into a stairwell. Officers caught up to him in the stairwell and he was arrested after a brief struggle. As a result of the search, officers seized over 100 grams of Crack Cocaine, over 3000 Ecstasy tablets and 10 grams of marihuana. Officers also seized a quantity of marihuana from the suspect subsequent to his arrest. The total amount of drugs seized amounted to over $42,000. It should be noted that the suspect had two televisions in his living room - one of which was dedicated solely to the surveillance camera located in the lobby of the building allowing the suspect to monitor pedestrian traffic. The loaded handgun was located on a seat cushion on the couch directly beside the suspect's "work station" on the couch thus indicating that the weapon was readily available to the suspect should it be needed quickly. The suspect is well known to the police. The investigation also revealed that the apartment was rented under a false name other than the suspect's. Daniel SHAW - 31 years of Toronto is charged with two counts of Possession of a Substance for The Purpose Of Trafficking, one count of Possession of a Scheduled Substance, Resisting a Police Officer and three charges in relation to the possession of the loaded firearm. SHAW will appear in court today and will be remanded into custody. - 30 - |
