Windsor Police have one man in custody after a man was intentionally struck by a vehicle yesterday afternoon in the west end of the city. At 3:30 p.m. yesterday, uniformed officers responded to a report of a hit and run with a pedestrian struck at the intersection of University Ave and McKay Ave. Officers arrived on scene to find a 42 year old man on the sidewalk suffering from a broken leg and several lacerations to his head and arms. The victim advised officers that he had been struck by a green vehicle and that recognized the driver as an acquaintance who had threatened to kill him earlier in the day. The victim was transported to hospital where he was admitted and is currently being treated for non - life threatening injuries. The investigation into this incident is ongoing and thus far has revealed that in the morning of yesterday's date, the victim received a phone call from a man he is familiar with advising the victim that he was going to shoot him. The victim advised police that suspect has been obsessed with the victim's girlfriend for sometime. Information was received that the victim, his girlfriend and another man were walking along the north sidewalk of University Ave approaching McKay Ave in a westerly direction. At this time, another man known to the suspect was seated in the driver's seat of a 1995 Dodge Spirit which was parked along the north curb of University Ave just west of McKay Ave facing east. The man seated in the vehicle advised that the suspect jumped into the passenger seat of the vehicle, brandished a silver hatchet, threatened him with it and ordered the man to run over the victim on the sidewalk. The man, fearing for his safety, told the suspect that he wanted no part of this and jumped out of the car running to the rear of the vehicle. The man advised police that the suspect then slid into the driver's seat of the vehicle and put it in reverse in an attempt to strike the man who was now standing behind a light pole. Witnesses to the incident then report that the vehicle sped across four lanes of traffic, squealing its tires toward the victim's party as they were crossing McKay Ave. The second man and the woman managed to jump to safety but the vehicle struck the victim causing him to fly up onto the hood and smashing the windshield. The victim landed in the intersection and the vehicle sped off north on McKay Ave. Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle turn around on McKay Ave and head back south on McKay toward the victim again. The victim's friends were able to drag him off the roadway prior to the vehicle returning. Prior to being struck, the victim recognized the man behind the wheel of the stolen vehicle as the same man who had threatened to kill him earlier in the day. Upon coming back to the intersection, the driver stopped the vehicle momentarily before leaving the scene eastbound on University Ave. Early this morning, Detectives received information that the wanted suspect was at a residence located in the 1000 block of Bruce Ave. At 3:00 a.m. this morning, uniformed officers attended the home where they found the suspect asleep on the couch in the living room. He was arrested without incident. Officers located the stolen vehicle which had sustained front end damage including a smashed windshield in the area of Crawford south of Wyandotte St W.
