DRIVER RUNS OUT OF ROAD - COLLIDES WITH TRAIN

The Windsor Police Service  has concluded their investigation into a motor vehicle accident last night where an SUV left the road and collided with a stationary rail car.  At 8:15 p.m. of yesterday's date, uniformed police officers and paramedics responded to the 3000 block of Pilette Rd.  at the CN Rail yard for a report of a vehicle that had left the roadway and struck a Multi Level Auto Carrier Rail Car.

Officers arrived on the scene to find a 2004 Black Chevrolet Trailblazer with heavy front end damage at rest against the above mentioned rail car.  Officers observed approximately 50 feet of tire tracks in the snow leading from the damaged vehicle back to the end of the dead end at Pilette Rd.  CN Rail employees had come to the aid of the lone male driver upon seeing the collision and had assisted him out of the damaged vehicle.  The investigation revealed that the 52 year old Wheatley man had been visiting his son in the city and was attempting to make his way home driving southbound in the 3000 block of Pilette Rd. Pilette Rd. dead ends at the rail yard in this block.  It appears that the vehicle continued through the dead end, left the roadway, and slid through the snow into the rail car.  Damage to the SUV was estimated at approximately $10,000.  The rail car did not sustain any damage.

The driver was taken to Hotel Dieu Hospital and treated for his injuries including a scrape on his forehead.  Information was received from medical personnel at the hospital that the driver is diabetic and may have suffered a heart attack prior to the collision which contributed to his level of disorientation. No charges will be laid as a result of this collision.
