Windsor Police are investigating a single vehicle motor vehicle accident resulting in fatal injuries to a 20 year old man that occurred early this morning. Shortly after 1:00 a.m. on today's date, uniformed officers responded to the intersection of Victoria Ave. and Ellis St. for a report of a collision involving a 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix. EMS and Fire personnel also responded and found a lone male driver inside the severely damaged vehicle. The driver was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Hotel Dieu Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The Windsor Police Traffic Reconstruction Unit attended the scene. The investigation revealed that the Grand Prix was travelling southbound on Victoria Ave. approaching Ellis St. at a high rate of speed. The vehicle struck a Jeep which was parked along the west curb of Victoria and then continued south through the intersection, mounted the sidewalk and struck a tree located on the property of the northwest corner of the intersection. This collision caused the vehicle to spin in a clockwise direction while still travelling south where it struck a second tree nearby and came to rest. This intersection is controlled by means of four way stop signs. Police believe that alcohol and excessive speed are contributing factors in the collision. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. - 30 -
