POLICE INVESTIGATING HOCKEY FIGHT

Windsor Police are investigating after a fight between two players at a recreational hockey game last night.  Police and Paramedics responded to the WFCU Center at shortly after 7:30 p.m. yesterday for a report of a fight between two players with one of the combatants laying unconscious on the ice.  Officers observed a 44 year old man lying on the ice surface being tended to by paramedics.  Upon speaking with the referee and spectators watching the game, it was determined that two players became involved in an altercation during the game.  Both players dropped their gloves and squared off against each other.  At some point during the fight, one of the combatants, a 40 year old man grabbed the other player and pulled him down to the ice where the victim stuck his head.  According to witness reports, the 40 year old man grabbed the victim's head (helmet) and banged it on the ice surface three times before the referees were able to intervene.

The 44 year old victim was taken to hospital where he was admitted and is currently being assessed for possible head injuries.  The severity of the injuries is undetermined at this time but it is believed that the victim's injuries are not life threatening.  The investigation is continuing and at the time of this release, it has not been determined if charges will be laid as a result of this incident.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call Windsor Police Investigations at 519-255-6700 ext 4830.
