POOL CUE ASSAULT LANDS MAN IN JAIL

Windsor police have a man in custody after he assaulted another man last night at a Walkerville area establishment.  At 11:00 p.m. Thursday July 1, 2010, uniformed officers responded to a report of an assault at a bar in the 700 block of Gladstone Ave.  Upon arrival, officers found the 34 victim lying on the floor bleeding from an injury to his mouth area.  Paramedics were on scene treating the victim.

The investigation revealed that the victim had been at the bar for several hours and at some point, he approached a table occupied by two females asking one of them for a cigarette.  It is unknown what was said during the verbal exchange but one of the women became upset.  The victim returned to the bar area where he was approached by another man who was later learned to be the son of the woman at the table.  Words were exchanged between the son who was holding a pool cue and the victim.  The victim turned away from the man at which time, the suspect swung the pool cue like a baseball bat striking the victim in the mouth.  The victim fell to the floor where the suspect began to strike him in the face with his fists several times until other patrons pulled the suspect off the victim.  The suspect fled the bar in the company of his mother.

Approximately 30 minutes after the assault took place, the suspect telephoned the bar apologizing and asking if the victim was OK.  He then advised the officers of his location.  Officers attended the cemetery at Ottawa St at Lillian St, located the suspect and placed him under arrest without incident.

The victim was transported to hospital where he received stitches to close some lacerations around his mouth. He was treated and released from hospital.
