| THIEVES TARGETING BRASS FITTINGS | ||
Windsor Police are investigating a rash of thefts in the downtown area involving brass fittings from fire hoses. During the past six months, well over 125 brass fittings have been stolen from apartment buildings located throughout the downtown area. The thefts are taking place during the afternoon and night time hours.
The brass fittings are the connectors that bind the hose to the water supply. The suspects are cutting the fire hose in order to remove the fittings thus rendering the fire hose inoperable, putting every occupant in the building at risk. If the Windsor Fire Department should respond to a fire call at an apartment building where the theft has occurred their ability to effectively perform their job will be compromised. The fittings are most likely being removed for their value as scrap metal and are very costly for the property owners to replace.
Anyone with any information about these thefts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 519-255-TIPS (8477) or Windsor Police Investigations at 519-255-6700 ext 4830.
