| BROTHERS FACE SEVERAL ASSAULT CHARGES | ||
Windsor Police have two men in custody after an altercation in the City's west end yesterday afternoon. At 1:20p.m. Tuesday June 29, 2010, uniformed officers responded to a report of a domestic argument at an apartment building in the 3600 block of Sandwich St. Upon arrival the officer observed a large crowd in the parking lot. One man was lying on the ground and a second man was standing near him holding a piece of wood. The officer ordered the man to drop the piece of wood. The man refused and began to swing the piece of wood at the officer in a threatening manner. The officer continued to order the man to drop the piece of wood but he refused to comply and eventually ran into the apartment building smashing a glass door with the piece of wood as he entered. The man laying on the ground then got to his feet and approached the officer threatening to assault him in the process. The officer advised him that he was under arrest at which point the man fled the scene on foot toward the rear of the apartment building. Officers arriving on the scene confronted this suspect at the corner of Peter St. at Watkins where he again approached the officers in a threatening manner. Officers deployed the taser and the suspect was subdued and arrested without further incident. Officers then located the second suspect in a third floor apartment in the building. Officers from the Emergency Services Unit who were now on the scene arrested this suspect without incident. The investigation revealed that the two suspects who are brothers were involved in a domestic argument with a 38 yr old female. One of the suspects assaulted the female resulting in injuries to her facial area. Numerous bystanders who had witnessed the assault intervened only to be assaulted by the brother of the suspect causing further altercations between numerous people. Officers received information that the two suspects and the victim had ingested alcohol and crack cocaine prior to the altercation. The female victim was transported to hospital where she was treated and released for non life threatening injuries. Richard RUBIK-36yrs of Windsor is charged with 3 counts of assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, assaulting a police officer, 2 counts of mischief under $5000. and breach of probation. Randy RUBIK-38yrs of Windsor is charged with 4 counts of assault, 2 counts assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest. Both accused are in Windsor Police custody and will appear in court today to answer to the charges. -30- |
