| SEARCH WARRANTS NET COCAINE, WEAPONS AND CASH | ||
Windsor Police have laid a total of 57 charges against five people after executing search warrants in Windsor and Amherstburg on June 24, 2010. Officers from the DIGS (Drugs, Intelligence, Guns, Surveillance) Unit received information on a number of suspects involved in cocaine trafficking in the city of Windsor. In the afternoon hours of Thursday June 24, 2010, officers from the DIGS Unit in company with officers from the Emergency Services Unit executed search warrants at two Windsor addresses and one Amherstburg address. Search warrants were executed at a residence in the 200 block of Reedmere in Windsor - the residence of two of the accused and in the 7700 block of County Rd #18 in Amherstburg - the residence of another two of the accused. The third search warrant was executed in the 3900 block of Wyandotte which was determined to be an unoccupied apartment but rented out in the names of two of the accused. As a result of these searches, various quantities of cocaine, marihuana, and Percocet tablets were found and seized by officers. A large quantity of cash was also seized at these premises. Two of the accused, Kirk MCNORTON - 39 years of Windsor and Crystal MCLACHLAN - 24 years also of Windsor were arrested at a downtown restaurant at 4:00 p.m. Thursday June 24, 2010. A third accused Todd WINDIBANK - 32 years of Amherstburg was arrested at his place of employment at 4:25 p.m. Two other accused, Amy WINDIBANK - 30 years of Amherstburg and Mary VERMEER - 41 years of Windsor - wife of Kirk MCNORTON are also charged with numerous drug and firearms charges and will be summonsed to appear in court at a future date. A quantity of drugs and cash were seized from both Todd WINDIBANK and Kirk MCNORTON subsequent to their arrest. The total street value of the drugs seized is estimated to be $499,570.90. It should be noted that just under five kilograms of the cocaine seized was extremely pure. It is believed that this cocaine was to be "cut" for resale which would increase the amount actually to be sold on the street. Also seized as a result of the search warrants were 4 handguns including a "Chrome Taurus" .38 special snub nose with the serial number filed off, a "Keltech Luger" 9mm semi-automatic handgun, a.45 calibre "Glock" handgun and a 9mm "Smith and Wesson" handgun. Also seized during the warrants and arrests was a quantity of cash totalling $21,385 CDN. and $850 US. Todd WINDIBANK, Kirk MCNORTON and Chrystal MCLACHLAN remain in Windsor Police custody. - 30 - |
