| TRIO CHARGED IN GROCERY HEIST | ||
Windsor Police have charged a man and two women after a robbery at a south Windsor grocery store last evening. At 6:55 p.m. on Tuesday June 22 2010, uniformed officers responded to a grocery store in the 4300 block of Walker Rd. for a report of a man who had pointed a handgun at a loss prevention officer employed by the store. The investigation revealed that a 23 year old man, his mother and his girlfriend had entered the store and proceeded to load up a shopping cart with a large quantity of meat and groceries. The trio then approached the checkout area but passed the cash registers making no attempt to pay for the items in the cart. The three suspects exited the store and a loss prevention officer approached the man pushing the cart advising him that he was under arrest for theft. the man immediately turned toward the officer, pulled a silver handgun from the waistband of his shorts, pointed it at the officer and stated "You better leave me alone". The officer immediately backed away and watched as the man put the gun back in his waistband and ran west through the parking lot toward another store. The two female suspects got into a pickup truck and began driving north in the parking lot. Uniformed officers responding to the scene observed the truck exiting the parking lot and stopped it. The two women were arrested without incident. Information was received that the male suspect had run into another store momentarily and was now outside. Officers attended this location and arrested the suspect outside the front of the store. The suspect was wearing a different shirt than he had on during the robbery. It was later learned that the suspect had hidden the shirt inside the second store in an attempt to disguise his identity. Officers also located a silver pellet pistol in a bush outside the second store near the parking lot. Mary STARUCH- 47 years of Windsor and Raquel SPEAL - 19 years also of Windsor are charged with one count of Robbery each. They have been released and will appear in court at a later date to answer to the charges. Andrew STARUCH - 23 years of Windsor is charged with Robbery, Pointing a Firearm, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Possession of a Weapon Dangerous To The Public Peace, Possession of a Firearm while Prohibited, Possession of Stolen Property under $5000 and Escaping lawful Custody. He has been remanded into custody. The loss prevention officer was shaken up but not physically injured during the incident. - 30 - |
