| KNIFE WIELDING SUSPECT ROBS CAB DRIVER | ||
Windsor Police are searching for a suspect after a cab driver was robbed at knifepoint on Saturday night. At 8:05 p.m. on February 27, 2010, uniformed officers responded to the 1000 block of Drouillard Rd. for a report of a robbery that had just occurred. Upon arrival, officers were met by a cab driver who advised that he had picked up a fare several minutes earlier at Howard Ave. at Tecumseh Rd. The driver described the fare as a 40 year old white male. The man got into the front passenger seat of the cab and asked to be driven to the corner of Hickory Rd at Richmond St. As the cab arrived at this location, the passenger pulled out a large steak knife and held it to the throat of the cab driver and demanded the driver's money. The cab driver gave a quantity of cash to the suspect. The suspect took the cash, then reached over and took the car keys from the ignition of the vehicle. The suspect then exited the cab and fled on foot eastbound on Richmond toward Drouillard Rd. The cab driver began to chase the suspect also on foot and observed the suspect throw the keys on the ground as he approached Drouillard Rd. The driver picked up his keys, called police, then ran back to his car and tried to follow the suspect in his vehicle but lost him in an alley near Drouillard Rd. at Whelpton St. A K9 unit performed a track from the robbery scene but lost it in the alley at Drouillard at Whelpton. The weapon was not recovered. The driver was not physically injured as a result of the robbery. The investigation is ongoing and police are in the process of obtaining surveillance video which may have captured images of the suspect.
