ANIMAL ABUSER CHARGED

The Windsor Police Service has arrested the owner of the dog at the center of a case of animal cruelty earlier this week.  On Monday May 12, 2010, a Labrador Retriever mixed breed male dog was found in the 700 block of Louis Ave. The dog named Tyson, had suffered abuse to its genital area. As a result of the extent of the injuries, the dog had to be euthanized.

Windsor Police conducted an investigation into the incident and as a result, the owner of the dog was identified and arrested at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday May 14, 2010 at the intersection of Wyandotte St. W. at Victoria Ave.

Anjalo ABEYWICKREMA - 51 years of Cataraqui St. in Windsor is charged with one count of Owner Permit Unnecessary Pain, Injury or Suffering to an Animal.

The accused has been admitted to Hotel Dieu Hospital with a medical condition. It is anticipated that he will be arraigned later this morning by telephone from Provincial Courtroom #1.
