BREAK IN TO NEIGHBOUR'S APARTMENT RESULTS IN CHARGES

Windsor Police have a man in custody facing several charges after a break and enter early this morning on the city's east side.  At 3:50 a.m. on today's date, uniformed officers on patrol in the area of Wyandotte St. E at Pillette Rd. observed a male run across Wyandotte St. from the north curb carrying what appeared to be a laptop computer under his arm. While running across the street, the man ran in front of a pickup truck travelling east on Wyandotte St. E. narrowly avoiding being struck by the vehicle.

Officers stopped the man on the south sidewalk of Wyandotte St. E. near Arthur Rd. While speaking to the man, officers detected a strong odour of alcohol on the man's breath.  Officers questioned the man if he owned the computer and he responded that he had borrowed it from a friend.  Officers received information that the man was currently bound by recognizance resulting from a previous charge with a condition not to consume alcohol.  The officers placed the suspect under arrest and a subsequent search of his person resulted in finding several computer cables in located in the pocket of his sweatshirt.  Through further investigation, officers determined that the suspect was not the owner of the laptop computer.  Officers contacted the owner and were advised by him that he had last left the computer in his apartment and was staying the night at a relative's house.  Officers attended the computer owner's apartment located in the 200 block of Pillette Rd. and observed that a basement level window had been damaged, entry had been gained to the apartment and the computer was missing.  It was later confirmed that the suspect resides in the same apartment building as the owner of the laptop computer.
