POLICE LAY CHARGE IN HIT AND RUN

Windsor Police have laid a charge of Failing To Remain at the Scene of an Accident against a 39 year old Windsor man after a vehicle struck a cyclist in downtown Windsor earlier this week.

At 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday October 26, 2010, uniformed officers responded to a report of a cyclist being struck by a black Mercedes at the intersection of Ouellette Ave at Wyandotte St.  Witnesses at the scene advised officers that after colliding with the cyclist, the Mercedes sped off south on Ouellette Ave.  The cyclist received minor injuries and was transported to hospital where he was treated and released.

As a result of an investigation by officers of the Windsor Police Traffic Unit, the vehicle and driver of the suspect vehicle were identified and the driver of that vehicle turned himself to Windsor Police Headquarters this morning.

Ahmad HAMMOUD - 39 years of Windsor is charged with one count of Failing To Remain under the Highway Traffic Act.
