Variety Store Robbed |

A variety store located in the 1200 block of Howard Avenue was robbed last night. At 9:30 p.m., a lone suspect entered the store, demanding money from the clerk. After making an unsuccessful attempt to open the cash register drawer, he picked the cash register off the counter and fled the store with it. Just as he was leaving, the victims husband came into the store from an upper, attached residence. He ran after the suspect and spotted him between some house at the rear of the store. The suspect was in the process of removing money from the cash register. The suspect ran from the area, leaving a trail of cash behind him. The cash register and a portion of the money was recovered. The suspect was last seen running across Giles Boulevard and entered the alley between Louis Avenue and Lillian. The victim was not harmed. No weapons were seen. Detectives of the Criminal Investigation Branch are working on this case and asking anyone with information to call 255-6700 ext. 4830 or Crime Stoppers at 258-TIPS (8477) The suspect is described: Male, white, late twenties to early thirties, 6 ft., 180-190 lbs., thin facial hair with moustache and goatee, wearing a black baseball cap with white writing on the brim and front of the cap, a black hooded sweatshirt and tan coloured overalls with a bib. He was wearing sunglasses.
