Officer Suspended

As the public is aware, the Windsor Police Service commenced a criminal investigation that centered on the use of an unmarked police vehicle to steal outdoor furniture, lawn and garden ornaments during the early morning hours of December 6th, 2003, from a Tecumseh Road West business.  During this investigation, the Windsor Police Service became aware of the seizure of property, by an on duty officer, that was not properly accounted for.  The property in this matter, is not related to the December 6th, occurrence.

Awareness of this undocumented seizure, resulted in a separate internal conduct investigation.  The culmination of this investigation has resulted in the suspension from duty, with pay, as per  the Police Services Act, of a 23- year member of the Service.

The Windsor Police Service will be seeking advice from the Regional Crown Attorney at the first available opportunity before proceeding with any judicial action.

Because this is an active and ongoing investigation, no further information will be provided at this time.

The investigation into the theft and subsequent return from the lawn furniture business continues.  The Service remains interested in any information the public may have, regarding the movement of outdoor furniture or lawn ornaments, between December 6th and 14th, 2003.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Superintendent of Investigations at 255-6700 ext. 4801 ( if not answered please leave message) or Crime Stoppers at 258-TIPS (8477)
