Clerk Assaulted

Two Windsor men have been charged for  assaulting a convenience store clerk early Saturday morning.  At 3:00 a.m., two men entered a convenience store located at Ouellette Avenue at Erie Street.  They walked around in the store and left without making any purchases.  They then stood out front of the store.  The 32 year old clerk went outside and  asked them to move, as they were blocking the view of the gas pumps.  Both men turned on the clerk and assaulted him.  He was taken to Hotel Dieu Hospital where he was treated for non life threatening injuries.  The suspects fled the scene.

At 3:50 a.m., officers on patrol spotted two men acting suspiciously at another convenience store located at Tecumseh Road and McDougall Avenue.  While the officers were questioning the pair, one took off and ran from the scene.  The other man pushed the officer who was questioning him and attempted to flee.  He was quickly apprehended and taken into custody.  The second man was located about two blocks away.

The suspects were identified as being responsible for the assault on the clerk at the Ouellette and Erie, convenience store earlier.

Derek Callahan 19, has been charged with Assault Bodily Harm and Assaulting a Police Officer.  Jason Hansaruk 20, has been charged with Assault Bodily Harm and Breach of Recognizance.
