Car Thief Caught

A sixteen year old young offender led police on a foot chase yesterday, after bailing out of a stolen car.  A police officer spotted the suspect driving a Plymouth Acclaim that has been reported stolen earlier that morning from the 2800 block of McMahon Street.  As the police cruiser pulled behind the suspect in the 1800 block of Balfour, the driver stopped and bailed out, running from the scene.

The officer chased him on foot through back yards and over fences throughout the neighborhood.  Several other police units sealed off the area and the suspect was caught in the back yard of a home in the 1600 block of Westminster Boulevard.  The suspect fought with the arresting officer and had to be pepper sprayed to be brought under control.

A 16 year old young offender is in police custody facing charges of Auto Theft and Resist Arrest.  He is also facing another charge of Auto Theft in connection to an incident on Saturday, July 5th, when he was caught driving a stolen automobile on Howard Avenue near Grand Marais Avenue.
