Here are a few tips for protecting your home and property this summer!

Home Security Tips:

• If you are in your back yard remember not to leave the front door unlocked.

• Keep your garage door shut as your home can be entered from the garage.

• Remember to put bicycles, tools, games etc., away and lock your sheds and garages.  If you leave items lying around your yard, you are creating an opportunity for a thief.

• Remember to close and lock your windows before going to bed.

Summer Vacation Tips:

• Advise a family member or a trusted neighbour of your departure and return dates.  Have them check on your property and leave a telephone number where you can be contacted in event of emergency.

• It is a good idea to store your valuables in a safety deposit box while away.

• Before leaving make sure all windows and doors are locked.  Double check basement and garage doors before you leave.

• Disconnect your power garage door opener.

• Motion sensor exterior lighting is a good idea for the exterior of your home.

• Make your home look lived in.  Have someone pick up your mail, have a neighbour park in your driveway.
