Pair Facing Several Charges

A Windsor couple are facing a number of charges, following their arrest, yesterday afternoon.  At 7:00 p.m., officers spotted the pair, seated in a van, parked on Wyandotte Street West, at Randolph Avenue.  Both were suspects in a Break and Enter Investigation.  Officers parked behind the van and as they approached, the male driver started the engine.  An officer approached the drivers door and advised the driver he was arrest.  The officer grabbed unto the suspect and attempted to remove him from the vehicle.  The driver put the car into gear and rammed into a vehicle that was parked in front of him.  He pushed the vehicle off the roadway and into a utility pole.  The officer held unto him, as he continued to drive away.  When the officer let go, he sped away, heading down Randolph Avenue.

The officers entered their cruiser and followed the vehicle to the 2200 block of Fanchette Street,  where the suspects bailed out of the vehicle.  The van was still in gear and went over a curb and crashed into a fence.  Citizens in the area, advised police they saw a male enter a home on Fanchette Street through a basement window.  Officers went to the home and had the four occupants leave, while they searched for the suspect.  The suspect was found hiding under a bed, in the basement.  He struggled with the officers when arrested.  The female was located hiding in some bushes, behind the home.

The vehicle the suspects were driving, was reported stolen from the 800 block of Assumption Street, on October 13th, 2003.  Officers also found suspected stolen property in the van.

Donald Meloche 33 and Elaine Blais 30, both of Windsor, are in police custody and will appear in court today, facing charges of Break and Enter, and Possession of Stolen Property.  Meloche ,is facing additional charges of, Dangerous Driving, Assaulting a Police Officer and Resist Arrest.
