Civilian


 

There are currently 145 authorized civilian positions within the Windsor Police Service, excluding Cadet positions.

Civilians provide clerical support to divisions within the Police Service such as Emergency 911, Data Entry Unit, CPIC/Charge Processing, Information Services, Technology Services, Patrol Services, Investigation Services, Human Resources, Financial Services, Planning & Physical Resources and Operational Support.

These positions can range from entry level to requiring specific clerical, technical or analytical skills.

If we are unable to find the ideal candidate for a vacancy through our internal job posting process, we will recruit externally. Job postings will always be posted on our website under "Job Opportunities". We advertise the postings on various job sites and our social media platforms. 


Selection Process:

  • Screening applicants to ensure the minimum requirements are met for the position posted.
  • Administering tests for applicants, which range from written and practical tests such as general English proficiency and keyboarding, and CritiCall testing for 911 Communicator positions.
  • Holding in-depth structured interviews based upon the essential competencies identified for the position.
  • Conducting a background investigation which includes thorough records checks for criminal history, reference checks and a home visit.
  • Psychological testing and assessment required for many civilian positions, including Special Constable and Emergency 911 Communicator.
  • Offering employment to the successful candidate, pending pre-employment medical testing and approval from the Windsor Police Services Board.
