Investigative Analysis

This area is responsible for the investigation of all offences pertaining to the Sexual Exploitation of Children on the Internet, including, but not limited to Child Pornography and Luring a Child. This area provide technical assistance to other branches with respect to Computer Crime related matters.  

This area is also responsible for assisting personnel assigned to Investigation Services in locating and retrieving data, assisting in preparing information for distribution, identifying crime trends and possible serial predators and inputting data into our records management system.   

The Forensic Computer Analyst serves as a support position for all investigations with regard to computers, cellular phones and other digital storage devices. 
The Forensic Computer Analyst is required to examine digital media in a forensically sound manner with the aim of identifying, preserving, recovering, analyzing and presenting facts and opinions about the data. 
When equipment is damaged, the Analyst must dismantle and attempt to rebuild the system in order to recover lost data.

The Forensic Video Analyst serves as a support position for all investigations with regard to surveillance video and images of evidentiary value.  The Forensic Video Analyst is responsible for the accurate capture of suspect video as well as the processing these videos to aid investigators and the courts in identifying persons, places and/or objects. 
Some of the techniques involved include image comparison analysis, biometrics and pattern recognition.

The Internet Child Exploitation Unit is responsible for the investigation of all crimes against children that originate from the misuse of the Internet by criminals.  Examples of this misuse include making, distributing, and possessing child sexual abuse material and the crime of Luring a Child.
The ICE Unit also provides support to all branches within the police service with respect to all crimes committed that involve the use of a computer or mobile communication device.
The Unit is dedicated to making the Internet a safer place for our children to learn, grow, and play.
Police remind the public to continue to report suspected cases of child abuse.  A report may result in the rescue of a victim.
The Windsor Police Service is a member of the Ontario Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet.  The Provincial Strategy is jointly supported by grants from the Ministry of the Attorney General for Ontario and the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.
