Crime Prevention

Sir Robert Peel, creator of the concept of the police service stated, “the basic mission for which the police exist is to prevent crime and disorder”. Preventing crime must not only involve the police but also various community partners such as our citizens and businesses.

In an effort to help reduce crime the Windsor Police Service(WPS) has teamed up with Neighbourhood Watch Windsor(NWW). Together we are training and educating our citizens and business owners to take an active role in preventing crime by being more observant and reporting minor offences.

Another crime fighting tool we have added is the use of Social Media to communicate with the public. Citizens now have the ability to follow the Windsor Police through these outlets and exchange dialogue with the police. As well, important alerts could be sent out through social media as it happens.

Through Neighbourhood Watch Windsor the Windsor Police Service offers its’ citizens Residential Safety Inspections through a Crime Prevention Through Enviromental Design (CPTED) audit. CPTED principles hold that "the proper design and effective use of the built environment can lead to a reduction in the fear of crime and incidence of crime, and to an improvement in quality of life."

Other programs offered by the Windsor Police Service include Crime Stoppers, Road Watch, and Victim Services.

The Windsor Police Service is fully dedicated to Crime Prevention in our community. We believe through education, sharing of resources and skills we all help reduce crime.
